10 residents of the Brenham nursing home tested positive for COVID after taking the vaccine

Ten residents of a nursing home in Brenham tested positive for COVID-19 after taking one or both doses of the vaccine, the facility confirmed Wednesday.

Six residents of the Focused Care nursing home received their first dose, while four received the second dose of the injection, establishment officials said. They were among the 17 residents who recently tested positive.

Five residents with a positive test did not want to be vaccinated. Meanwhile, two of the positive residents were admitted to the nursing home after vaccines were offered, according to the facility.

Six members of the nursing home team also tested positive. Three of those who tested positive had not yet been vaccinated.

Fourteen of the infected residents were transferred to Focused Care in Baytown. Two residents are now staying at Kruse Village in COVID-19, while another was admitted to a local hospital in Brenham, according to the statement.

The nursing home in Brenham was undergoing routine tests, but started the outbreak test as soon as a staff member tested positive on February 22, according to a facility statement.

“The outbreak test occurs every 3 to 4 days and is required by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC),” according to the statement. “Frequent testing will continue until no positive tests are returned in 14 days.”

Upon completion of the frequent tests, residents will continue to take the test twice a week for Covid-19.

Nanette Riedell-Mendez told KPRC that her mother had tested positive for COVID-19 after taking her last dose of the Pfizer vaccine in January.

On March 1, asylum officials told Riedell-Mendez that his mother, Francine Riedell, had tested positive.

The 95-year-old passed out and was hospitalized, but now “looks fine,” Riedell-Mendez told KPRC.

In total, 21 of the 35 residents of the nursing home were vaccinated. Six residents refused to receive the vaccine, according to the facility.

The six team members who tested positive went to quarantine off-site. One of the team members ended the quarantine and returned to work on March 8.

There are no positive staff members or residents of the Brenham nursing home.

“Focused Care will continue to operate with the same safeguards in place prior to Governor Abbott’s announcement until new guidance is issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS),” he said. the installation.

In the statement, the facility notes that the Centers for Disease Control say it takes two weeks after someone is vaccinated “for the body to create protection (immunity) against the virus that causes COVID-19”.

“This means that it is possible that a person may still be able to take COVID-19 before or shortly after vaccination and become ill because the vaccine did not have enough time to provide protection,” according to the CDC.
