“It has been a very, very collaborative process, this one.”
It’s a catch-22 entertainment journalists we met. When you interview an MCU star, you want to ask them about your next MCU movie. But these stars are sworn to such levels of secrecy, they simply cannot reveal anything (unless their name is Tom Holland, it is clear). What should be done?
Well, if it’s our own Steve Weintraub interviewing Benedict Cumberbatch for your next spy thriller The Courier, he asks if he can to ask about Marvel – specifically, the next sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Cumberbatch’s answer is blunt, sassy and exactly what we were all thinking: “I mean, we know how this is going to be a dead end, but yes, of course you can waste your time by asking a Marvel question.”
Finally, Cumberbatch spoke about his experience in making Doctor Strange 2, who “has been filming since before Christmas”. Specifically, Cumberbatch praised the director Sam Raimi, who is new to this specific MCU, but is the chief architect of superhero cinema in his 2000s Spider man trilogy – not to mention his status as a horror movie titan. Here’s what the star said of its director:
“Sam, incredible. He’s so collaborative. God, he comes with the luggage of an icon. He’s an incredible force, especially in this genre. But he’s so humble, he’s so cool, he’s so grateful, you really want to and boy, when he’s happy, you know he did something right. He’s so good at taking you there and doing it. It was a very, very collaborative process, this one. Our origin stories, I think, and obviously the beasts of those Avengers movies were exciting, but you’re just following along. You do the best with what you already have to do. to solve this? ‘ So it looks very creative. Scary at times. ”
First of all, I am very happy to know that Raimi cultivates a kind and collaborative ensemble, in addition to being a clearly talented filmmaker. And secondly, the idea of Raimi giving the cast space to play and collaborate on the set of a big-budget superhero sequel – to the point where Cumberbatch finds this a little scary – is very, very intriguing.
Watch the full video of Benedict Cumberbatch using gas Doctor Strange 2 director Sam Raimi above – at least to see Cumberbatch give Frosty a good time in the final moments. And stay tuned for our full interview with Cumberbatch soon.
