Meghan Markle formally complained to British broadcaster ITV after Piers Morgan attacked her and accused her of lying about her mental health on “Good Morning Britain”, according to a report.
The UK Communications Office received more than 41,000 complaints about Morgan’s behavior on Tuesday, according to The Guardian – prompting the regulator to launch an investigation into whether Morgan’s statements violated the transmission code of damages and misdemeanors.
A formal complaint has also been filed on behalf of the Duchess of Sussex with ITV, the British network that hosts the morning talk show, the media said.
Amid the reaction, the famous host left the show sensationally on Tuesday, just hours after leaving the set, when his colleague Alex Beresford called on him to continue to “destroy” Markle after the couple’s impressive meeting with Oprah Winfrey.
About two hours later, ITV issued a statement saying: “After discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan decided that now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV accepted this decision and has nothing more to add. “
Morgan expressed doubts about the show after Markle opened up to Winfrey about having suicidal thoughts, including claims that she was told that seeking help would not look good for a member of the royal family.
“Who did you go to?” Morgan said Monday in “Good Morning Britain”. “What did they say to you? I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word of what she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report. “
After the comments of the TV presenter, it is understood that the ITV chiefs wanted Morgan to apologize on the air.
On Tuesday, Morgan said he still did not believe Markle, but insisted that he takes mental illness very seriously.
“When we talked about it yesterday, I said broadly that I don’t believe what Meghan Markle is saying in general in this interview, and I still have serious concerns about the truth of much of what she said.”
He added: “But let me just register my position on mental illness and suicide. These are clearly extremely serious things that must be taken extremely seriously, and if someone is feeling that way, they should receive the treatment and help they need at all times. “
