The Vikings chose not to offer exclusive rights, cornerback Chris Jones, making him free to sign with any team, Chris Tomasson of St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Minnesota removed Jones from layoff in October, and the cornerback played eight games for the club in 2020, starting with three. He finished with 19 tackles, playing a total of 25 percent of the Vikings’ defensive snaps.
“I am blessed and grateful for the opportunity that the Vikings honestly gave me, because they didn’t have it either. I am forever grateful”Said Jones, via Tomasson. “Last year was not what I expected, but it was just lessons and I’m excited for the future. “
Jones joined the league as a non-hired free agent from Nebraska in 2018, signing with Lions. When they cut him off at the end of the preseason, he went to the Cardinals and was with Arizona until the end of the 2020 training camp. Jones was claimed by Detroit and appeared in a game for the club in 2020.
In 22 career games, Jones has six passes saved.
