Supreme Court rejects Trump’s final election challenge

The Supreme Court dismissed former President Donald Trump’s last challenge to state election procedures on Monday, rejecting his appeal of lower court decisions that supported Wisconsin’s handling of ballots by mail.

The court announced the rejection without comment in a one-line order, which is normal practice.

Trump and his allies have had a uniformly unsuccessful record before the Supreme Court in their efforts to overturn the presidential election results in states won by Joe Biden.

In December, judges refused to file a Texas lawsuit against the battle states of Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The court said Texas has shown no legal interest in how other states conduct their elections.

The Supreme Court last month rejected two other Trump challenges to vote counting procedures in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. And while vote counting was still in progress in November, the court refused to stop Pennsylvania from counting votes received after election day.

Monday’s action came as no surprise, because if the court had intended to accept any of Trump’s challenges, it would have done so before Congress formally counted the Electoral College vote on January 6, a process delayed several hours by riots on the Capitol.
