Ohio reports only 735 new cases of coronavirus: Sunday update

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reported on Sunday that the number of confirmed or probable infections from the new coronavirus has increased to 978,471, an increase from 735 since Saturday.

The state has not registered any new deaths in the past 24 hours. According to the state’s COVID-19 panel, the total number of deaths is no longer available daily. It will be updated twice a week.

The state reported 1,506 new cases on Saturday.

In the past 24 hours, COVID-19 hospitalizations across the state have increased by 33, which is much lower than the 21-day moving average of 111 daily hospitalizations. Two patients with COVID-19 were transferred to the ICU in the last 24 hours, also well below the current average of 21 days out of 13.

Sunday’s case count is less than half the 21-day moving average, which currently stands at 1,863.

Ohio reported the start of another 58,227 COVID-19 vaccines, meaning that at least one dose was given on Saturday afternoon. A total of 1,929,773 vaccines have been started in the state, representing 16.51% of the Ohio population. A total of 1,075,272 vaccinations were completed (9.2% of the Ohio population).

There are more than 116 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and almost 2.6 million deaths worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins researchers. In the USA, there are almost 29 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and about 525,000 deaths from COVID-19.
