Syracuse, NY – A 59-year-old woman died of coronavirus, marking her 675th death here since the pandemic began, according to data from Onondaga County.
The Covid-19 virus was first confirmed here on March 16, almost a year ago. Since then, the municipality has confirmed 31,977 cases.
This means that at least 1 in 15 county residents has had the virus.
At the same time, nearly a third of every adult in Onondaga County has been vaccinated, said county executive Ryan McMahon.
So far, 111,191 county residents have been shot, according to McMahon. Of these, 60,676 are fully vaccinated.
That means 30.8% of the county’s adult population has already taken a dose, he said. “The Onondaga team is killing this,” he said.
Today, McMahon said another 55 cases were confirmed. Last week, only 0.8% of the test results tested positive for the virus, he said.
Fifty-four people are hospitalized, three more since Saturday. Eight people are in intensive care.
