Teenager killed in target shooting

A teenager was murdered and two others were injured in a shootout on Friday night, according to Bluffton, South Carolina police.

The WTOC reported earlier on Sunday that two arrests were made during the shooting. Two teenagers from Bluffton and Orangeburg were arrested for an accomplice after a crime or murder on Saturday night by Bluffton police, but it is not yet clear whether they are linked to the shooting.

One of the victims of the shooting, an 18-year-old Bluffton High School student, was discharged from hospital on Saturday. The 16-year-old victim, who is also a student at Bluffton High School, was still in the hospital on Saturday afternoon.

The shooting occurred sometime before midnight on Friday at Bluffton Parkway near Hampton Lake – a quiet residential area of ​​Bluffton, which lies between Hilton Head and Savannah, Georgia.

“Bluffton police say an unknown suspect vehicle (s) fired at the victims ‘car and the victims’ car got off the road,” said the Bluffton Police statement.

The victims’ vehicle crashed.

Fields died at the scene, while the other teenagers were transported to the hospital after the shooting.

Police said all the victims were athletes from Bluffton High School.

“As the Bluffton community processes this tragedy, our thoughts and prayers go to the families of this meaningless act. I assure you that our investigators are working around the clock to solve this crime, ”Chief Stephenie Price said. “Be aware that this is an active investigation and the information may be subject to change as events arise.”

The police believe that this is an isolated incident.

At a news conference on Saturday afternoon, Price emphasized that public safety is not at risk.

Dwon (DJ) Fields worked at Kilwin’s in Bluffton. Jake Higgins, the store owner, wrote on Facebook that the Kilwin team is “completely heartbroken”.

Bluffton High School will hold a vigil on Sunday at 4 pm at Bobcat Stadium to honor DJ Fields.
