A 12-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday by the police after attempting several armed robberies in the Washington, DC area.
The boy tried to steal three vehicles and managed to steal a fourth, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The four incidents took place within an hour in Northeast DC on Thursday, March 4.
Police said the incidents started around 6:30 pm, when two suspects, one of them wielding a gun, approached a person and told the driver to get out of the vehicle.
“The victim did not obey and fled the scene,” the police said in a statement.
About 45 minutes later, the suspects approached a second person who was sitting in his car. One of the suspects displaying a firearm demanded that the man get out of the vehicle. He refused the suspect’s orders and left the scene.
Then, five minutes later, at 7:20 pm, the pair made a third attempt and told an individual to hand over his car keys before the suspects fled the scene on foot.
However, in the fourth incident, the suspects approached a woman sitting in her car. One of the suspects with a firearm demanded that the woman get out of the vehicle. She obeyed and the suspects drove off in the woman’s car.
Shortly after, the police said that “one of the suspects was apprehended” and “the victim’s vehicle was recovered”. A 12-year-old boy from Southeast DC was arrested by the police the same day and charged. Authorities said they were still looking for another suspect captured by a surveillance camera.
Police said they were offering up to $ 10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
