Minister of Health and Minister of Foreign Affairs receiving the vaccine
Ghana received on Friday, March 5, 50,000 doses of India’s COVID-19 vaccine, the second vaccine it has received so far.
600,000 doses of the Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccines have already been delivered under the COVAX platform.
A mass vaccination exercise has begun as the country runs out of time to fight the pandemic since it started on March 12.
In a welcoming ceremony for this batch of vaccines at Kotoka International Airport.
Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said the donation “is certainly a remarkable support for our fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and reflects the cordial and fraternal relations between Ghana and India”.
“In addition, it underscores the mutual commitment of our two governments to work in solidarity and partnership to address common challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.
The minister also guaranteed that the government leaves no stone unturned in its quest to acquire at least 20 million doses of COVID-19 B vaccines to effectively inoculate the population ”.
Also at the ceremony were Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu and some health officials.
More than 30,000 inhabitants have already participated in the country’s vaccination program.
