SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased by 570 on Saturday, with five more deaths and 26,098 vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The day marked Utah’s one-year anniversary declaring a state of emergency for the coronavirus pandemic and the state’s first confirmed case.
The average number of positive cases per day for seven days is now 527, according to the health department. The rate of positive test per day for that period of time reported with the “people over people” method is now 9.5%. The rate of positive test per day, the seven-day average calculated using the “test on test” method is now 4.6%.
There are 194 patients with COVID-19 currently hospitalized in Utah, including 77 in intensive care, state data show. Approximately 71.5% of all beds in intensive care units in Utah are occupied, including 74.8% of ICU beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 54.2% of non-ICU hospital beds are occupied, according to the health department.
843,032 vaccines have already been administered in the state, compared to 816,934 on Friday. A total of 546,814 people received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 304,168 were fully vaccinated, according to data from the health department. A total of 1,005,715 vaccines have already been delivered to Utah.
Of the 2,243,694 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.7% tested positive for the disease. The total number of tests carried out since the pandemic began is now 3,903,480, an increase of 18,594 since Friday.
The five deaths reported on Saturday include:
- A woman from Salt Lake County over 85 who was not hospitalized at the time of death
- A woman from Salt Lake County between the ages of 45 and 64 and was hospitalized at the time of death
- A man from Weber County aged 45-64 years and was hospitalized at the time of death
- Salt Lake County resident aged 25-44 years and was hospitalized at the time of death
- A woman from Uintah County aged 45-64 years and was hospitalized at the time of death
Saturday’s total gives Utah 374,438 confirmed cases, with 14,867 hospitalizations and 1,975 deaths from the disease. A total of 358,249 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered, health department data shows
Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced at a news conference on Thursday that eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine will be expanded to Utahns aged 50 and over, as well as to state residents with more underlying health conditions.
