Google testing YouTube app similar to Android TV for Chromecast

The experience of casting YouTube to a TV connected to the Chromecast has remained largely unchanged in recent years. Google now appears to be making a pseudo-YouTube app for Chromecast that follows the Android TV version.

Historically, casting a video from your phone to a television connected to the Chromecast carries only a video player that provides basic details (channel name, view count, date and time) in the bottom left corner. Once the clip is complete, you will be taken back to the “Ready to watch” home screen with instructions.

Some users are now having a radically different experience, which starts with a remote control appearing on the YouTube mobile app. The player that appears on Chromecast / TV allows users to change resolution, captions and even access “Statistics for nerds”. In addition, they can add new videos to the queue / playlist.

Instead of being taken to the home screen at the conclusion of the video, there is a home screen with suggestions on what to watch next, such as Android TV. The ability to enter was also present through the Watch on TV link option.

YouTube Chromecast app

At least two users have so far found this YouTube app for Chromecast, with u / garethonreddit managing to capture a settings screen on Chromecast Ultra. We learned from the “Version” number that this is a “web” experience, while the “Client” observes how it is compatible with HTML5. Users can clear their viewing and search history, as well as “Reset the app”.

In the meantime, u / greyhood_39 received this new UI on the third generation Chromecast and told us today that there has been a considerable increase in ads with this interface.

With this new app, Google is offering a much more powerful experience – especially with player controls – and engaging YouTube on its highly accessible streaming dongles. There are obvious advantages to joint navigation and the ability to do more on the bigger screen in your home.

This YouTube app for the Chromecast experience is still in testing and has since disappeared for both users. We were unable to replicate it on our devices.
