Retired US Army Command Sergeant Major Jewell McCullough, a resident of Ware Shoals, South Carolina, was inducted into the South Carolina National Guard Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the McCrady Training Center in Eastover, South Carolina, March 5, 2021.

The Enlisted Hall of Fame is an honor for South Carolina National Guard noncommissioned officers who went the extra mile in carrying out their duties. Criteria for inducing the South Carolina National Guard Enlisted Hall of Fame include being an enlisted, retired, or deceased member of the South Carolina National Guard service, whose accomplishments, contributions, or sacrifices contributed to the Carolina National Guard from the South or to the United States of America. Recipients receive a plaque, which hangs at the 218th Regional Training Institute at the McCrady Training Center, where service members are trained to develop their leadership skills. The South Carolina National Guard holds a ceremony each year to recognize the newest individuals being introduced to the Enlisted Hall of Fame.

McCullough served in the South Carolina National Guard for more than 36 years. McCullough held many positions during his time in the National Guard, progressing from a unit officer to his final assignment as Sergeant Major of the South Carolina Army National Guard. She served as Command Sergeant Major in the 151st Expeditionary Signaling Battalion during a deployment in Iraq. During McCullough’s time as commander of the 218th Regional Training Institute (RTI) and commander of the 3rd Battalion (Academy of Non-Commissioned Officers), she led the RTI in completing 57 Warrior Leader Courses and 11 Advanced Leader Courses. In McCullough’s final role as chief sergeant of state personnel, McCullough met the administrative needs and readiness of more than 9,000 soldiers, while overseeing the state personnel office. She oversaw the activities of the state personnel office to include general strength, enlisted personnel management, awards, advice, earnings, layoffs and soldier service life management.

Major McCullough awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with a set of bronze oak leaves, Meritorious Service Medal with two sets of bronze oak leaves, Army Commendation Medal with set of bronze leaves bronze oak, Army Achievement Medal with three sets of bronze oak leaves the combat action emblem.
