US COVID-19 vaccine is ahead of schedule, with 2 million doses now administered daily

The Biden administration continues to “overdeliver” when it comes to its coronavirus mitigation efforts.

The United States is currently administering 2 million COVID-19 vaccines a day, The New York Times reported on Thursday, citing data from the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That number exceeds the 1.5 million daily doses that Biden undertook when he took office.

At this rate, the president’s goal of administering 100 million vaccines by the end of April will be achieved ahead of schedule. At least 54 million people – or 16% of the US population – have already received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, said the CDC.

Biden said on Tuesday that the United States would have a sufficient vaccine supply for all adults by the end of May, thanks to the recent authorization from the Food and Drug Administration for a third vaccine. But the challenges remain for state and city governments with the task of distributing vaccines, and Biden cautioned Americans to continue to remain socially distant and wear masks while the national vaccination campaign continues.

“I urge all Americans: stay socially aloof, wear masks, get vaccinated when it’s your turn,” said Biden. “Now is not the time to let your guard down. People’s lives are at stake ”.

More than half a million people in the United States died of COVID-19 and tens of thousands of Americans continue to fall ill with the coronavirus every day. Still, several Republican governors, including Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, took action this week to lift mask mandates and other restrictions on coronavirus in their states – despite warnings and condemnations from officials of health.

Abbott and Reeves cited declining hospitalizations and rising vaccination rates to defend their decisions.

“With medical advances in vaccines and antibiotic therapeutic drugs, Texas now has the tools to protect Texans from the virus,” said Abbott as he promised to open Texas “100%.”

Biden criticized this reasoning as “Neanderthal thinking”.
