Nintendo Switch Pro gets OLED screen

Nintendo Switch Pro Gets Oled Screen

It looks like Nintendo will reveal a ‘Pro’ model of its Switch game console later this year, equipped with a larger Samsung OLED screen, according to a new report by Bloomberg.

Samsung Display Co. will begin mass production of 7-inch 720p resolution OLED panels as early as June, with an initial monthly target of just under one million units. The displays are scheduled to be sent to automakers in July.

The Switch is entering its fifth year and continues to sell well on both Xbox and PlayStation – aided by titles like “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” and a shortage of semiconductors that limits the supply of rival machines.

However, the console is now being seen as less powerful compared to the new kids in the neighborhood and conversations about a more premium version of the Switch with an OLED screen and support for 4K graphics have been circulating.

Although Nintendo remained silent on the radio, Samsung’s involvement is the strongest indication that the company is serious about updating the console and the 7-inch rigid OLED panels are expected to consume less battery, offer greater contrast and time response speed possibly faster than the current 6.2 inch LED LCD displays.
