UK Basketball: A major player is injured, cannot play against South Carolina Gamecocks

This has been a difficult season for the Kentucky Wildcats, so it is appropriate that it end with another injury to an important player.

According to Matt Jones of KSR, one of the Wildcats was injured during training today and is now unable to play on Saturday against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Kentucky has already had significant injuries at Keion Brooks and Terrence Clarke, the last of whom is not expected to play again this season. Losing another big guy like Davion Mintz, Keion Brooks, BJ Boston, Isaiah Jackson, Jacob Toppin, Devin Askew or Olivier Sarr would really leave Kentucky on Saturday.

Obviously, it is not clear who the player in question is, but even a minor injury at the end of the week can hurt them on Saturday, in a game that Kentucky really needs to win for a much needed boost of confidence towards the SEC Tournament.

Given Kentucky’s luck with injuries recently, it’s fair to wonder if anyone who got injured played his last minute this season and, potentially, his career. Since the Wildcats’ season is likely to end next week if they fail to win the SEC Tournament, you must ask yourself if anyone who is injured will find it worth playing again in what was one of the worst seasons in the show’s history.

It is possible that we would know about the injury tomorrow when Kentucky holds its pre-South Carolina press conference with the local media, although I imagine that John Calipari will try to play so close to the vest.

We will update this post if more details are released tonight.
