The McLaren F1 is not only one of the most important supercars of all time, it is also one of the most exclusive. Because of this, serious collectors must act quickly on the rare occasions when one is up for grabs.
Now, one of those moments is upon us, as a 1995 red F1 has just been listed for sale by the used supercar dealer, Issimi. Even better: this F1, one of seven already sold in the United States, is in excellent condition.
Introduced in 1992, the speed machine designed by Gordon Murray changed the course of supercar history with its streamlined design and cutting-edge technology, and is even considered by some enthusiasts to be the first hypercar. It is easy to see why. Underneath its beautiful carbon fiber body is a 6.1-liter BMW S70 / 2 V12 coupled to a six-speed manual that can produce 627 horsepower, 479 ft lbs of torque and redline at 7,500 rpm. Almost three decades later, it is still considered one of the best power trains of all time.
This particular example is from the 1995 model year – the car was only in production from 1992 to 1998 – and has been “superbly maintained” since it came off the line, according to Issimi. It has a red finish and a black interior with red details that have enough space for you and two passengers. It passed through two owners during its lifetime, although the dealership did not reveal the exact number of miles on the odometer.
But it is this rarity of F1s that makes this sale so remarkable. 106 examples were built during its seven-year production run, and only 64 were allowed on the streets. Of these, only seven were sold to owners in the United States. The new owner will be
Issimi does not present a price for the vehicle, but recommends interested parties to contact one of their advisers. If you miss this F1, don’t worry. We don’t know of any other examples of the supercar that should hit the market in the near future, but Murray’s current creation, the T.50, is slated to go into production next year.
