An Animal Crossing: New Horizons player noticed another feature in the game, this time a unique feature found only on football fish on display.
Reddit User u / -starwing shared in the Animal Crossing subreddit that soccer fish actually use their own light source (scientifically known as their illicium) to illuminate their tanks when they are on display. This means that when players interact with the tank to turn the light on and off, the light emanates from the fish instead of the tank, as with other species.
I don’t know if that was mentioned before, but when you interact with a football fish in an aquarium, you turn on the fish light instead of the r / AnimalCrossing aquarium light.
This small but interesting discovery has caused several other Animal Crossing: New Horizons players to share things they’ve noticed in the fish that are on display in the comments.
One user stated that “The mantis shrimp attacks and breaks the glass”. which is a very accurate representation of the real-life sea creature, as they have a strong impact. Another user added that turning on the light for any Olive Flounders cause them to float to the top of the tank, before going back to the bottom to camouflage itself again – a technique that the true flounder of the olive tree uses in nature. Finally, another user said that The marine butterflies make “a ‘rawr!’ movement” when you increase the brightness in your tanks too.
Fans of this island escape game have shared several other details that are easy to miss, including that frog villagers are the only ones who don’t use an umbrella in the rain, as well as players can share a bench with their residents, and that the beetles from manure can make perfect snowboys.
