Celebrities react to Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to reopen Texas, end of the mask’s term across the state

Celebrities spoke on social media about the announcement by Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott that he plans to fully reopen the state amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Abbott issued an executive order that rescinds many of the state’s previous orders, allowing all companies in the state to reopen fully and revoking the state mask mandate next Wednesday.

“I just announced that Texas is 100% OPEN. EVERYTHING,” he tweeted Tuesday. “I also ended the mask’s term across the state.”

Although the governor warned at a news conference that the order does not mean that coronavirus is no longer a concern in the state, he pointed out a number of positive statistics, including the reduction of active COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations and upcoming vaccinations such as reason enough to reopen the state and end the mandate.

“Make no mistake. Opening 100% of Texas and Mississippi will have a disproportionate impact and will kill minorities, who make up a large part of the essential workforce that supports the impact of this pandemic,” wrote George Takei. “This is criminal, a racist death sentence for so many who could have been spared.”

“Why isn’t a catastrophe in your hands this year enough for you?” Patricia Arquette wrote in response to Abbott’s tweet.

“Only another white man could find a way to become a worse person than Ted Cruz”, Chelsea Handler added.

“In addition, Texas does not allow voting anymore and we are renaming San Antonio to Whoville, ‘” mocked Billy Eichner.

“Governor Abbott actively canceling the Texans”, wrote Michael McKean.

“Biden: We are going to vaccinate everyone.

“Governor of Texas: we are going to kill everyone”, wrote comedian Mike Birbiglia.

“Greg Abbott’s decision to reopen Texas is premature,” Stephen King stated bluntly.

“Texas’ Alamo Drafthouse is maintaining masks and guidelines for social detachment,” wrote comedian Steve Hofstetter. “A cinema is a better governor than Greg Abbott.

“@GOP is a death cult”, wrote Bradley Whitford.

Abbott’s latest directive will take effect on Wednesday, March 10. President Donald Trump declared the coronavirus pandemic a national emergency on March 13, 2020.
