Animal Crossing fans are using Mario’s warp pipe in brilliant ways

Super Mario’s 35th anniversary items are on the air at Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and while many of the additions are excellent, an item is a total game changer. Iconic green bend tubes allow fans to instantly travel between locations, and smart fans are already finding new ways to take this functionality even further.

There are limits, of course. You can’t, for example, put a pipe directly in a favorite resident’s home – will put you in the same place. Nor can you reach the height of the “fourth level” with a warp tube. But even within those limits, there is a lot you can do.

Perhaps the most brilliant use of the warp pipe I’ve heard so far comes from game developer Andrew Goldfarb, who says he has one installed inside his house. The second bend tube, however, is loaded into your inventory all the time, so no matter where it is, it can simply teleport back to the base. Nice! Likewise, many users tell Polygon that they are using the tubes as a beeline for access points, like the museum, or remote places like Redd’s beach. Apparently, you can also use pipes to escape from attackers like bees.

The most popular way for Animal Crossing fans to use pipes is as shortcuts to secret locations that can sometimes only be accessed by warp, or known only to the player who placed them.

But you can also use warp pipes to suit a certain aesthetic or theme, as you will see below.
