An Ohio mother who told police that her 6-year-old son was missing now faces murder and other charges in connection with her death.
Before Brittney Gosney reported missing persons to the Middeltown Police Division on Sunday, officials said she tried to leave James Robert Hutchinson in a wildlife area and ran him over when he tried to get back in the car.
Gosney, 29, told investigators that he ran away and dragged Hutchinson in Preble County on Friday, according to court records obtained by WWBC, an affiliate of NBC. When she returned about 30 minutes later, she said she found him dead in a parking lot with a head injury, the criminal complaint said.
According to the court document, Gosney brought his son’s body to his home, where he placed it in an upstairs room. The next day, she and her boyfriend, James Hamilton, 42, drove to an undisclosed location along the Ohio River and threw the boy’s body into the water, the document said.
She and Hamilton were charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence, according to police.
A judge set Gosney’s bail at $ 1 million on Monday and Hamilton’s bail was set at $ 100,000, WWBT reported. It was not clear on Tuesday whether Gosney and Hamilton had lawyers.
The next hearing is scheduled for March 8.
Police said two other children who lived in the couple’s home were removed.
Authorities are still looking for the boy’s body.
Middletown is a city about 61 kilometers north of Cincinnati.
