The Google TV app for Android has received an update that includes the start of a universal remote control to connect to Android TV devices, which can replace the long-out-of-date Android TV Remote Control app.

We were able to enable the pairing process on one of our devices, but things still seem to be in the early stages of development, as no devices have been found, either over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
As far as we can put together, the Google TV app will connect via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, just like the original remote control app for Android TV. This configuration is much more convenient, as it does not require a standalone application.
