The Snyder Cut changed from a movie to a miniseries back to a movie, and Zack Snyder reveals why they decided to skip the miniseries concept.
Zack Snyder explains why Justice League it was changed from a four-part miniseries to a four-hour movie. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is finally coming to watch on HBO Max in March, which will continue the story that the director started Steel man and Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Zack Snyder’s Justice League it was always planned to be released as a movie, but at one point it was considered to be released as a miniseries.
On the DC FanDome, Snyder announced that Justice League would debut on HBO Max as four hourly installments on HBO Max, with the indication that each chapter would be released once a week. This makes a lot of sense, as HBO Max will become a great home for DC Entertainment miniseries, including the upcoming Peacemaker spinning off Suicide squad and Gotham PD that will serve as a prequel to Batman. While Zack Snyder’s Justice League it would have been a proper start for the DC miniseries, that plan has been dropped and the reason is now revealed.

At IGN Fan Fest, Snyder made an appearance and confirmed that the decision to go from the announced miniseries to a four-hour movie was down to whether certain backstage contracts and whether they would allow it. While he toyed with the idea of making the miniseries, the possibility of watching it at home makes the four-hour movie more accessible, as audiences can pause the movie to use the bathroom or pick up food of their choice. Snyder also made a point of noting that the fans have waited long enough, he doesn’t want them to wait any longer.
The contracts for the stars and several high-ranking members of the team is something that may not be immediately in the minds of fans, but given the status of the film and certain precedents behind it that would raise many logistical issues. Zack Snyder said he was not paid in exchange for having complete freedom in the project, but Warner Bros. would have to pay the actors who went back to the remake scenes and probably renegotiate the contracts of the other movie stars as if they were cutting a movie in a television series would change the conditions of the original contracts they signed and how they would receive compensation or waste for that. WarnerMedia had to pay Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins more than $ 10 million each when they moved Wonder Woman 1984 from a direct theatrical window for a HBO Max next day release.
Another factor in the change may be AT&T’s decision to release all of its 2021 films in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously. When the miniseries Snyder Cut was announced in August 2020, HBO Max was still a new streaming service and the COVID-19 pandemic delayed much of the new programming they had planned. Stretching Justice League over four weeks it would be a good way to get people to stay subscribed to the app for a month and, hopefully, continue on to the next big project. Now, although with the flow of high-profile films, they are now spacing out larger projects so that nothing gets lost in the confusion. Zack Snyder’s Justice League now arrives at HBO Max two weeks before Godzilla Vs Kong and a whole month before Mortal combat. With theaters not yet fully open, HBO Max will offer fans a month full of highly anticipated movies that they can watch at home.
