Sunday marked a new milestone in the vaccination effort COVID-19 in Santa Clara County, when workers in education and daycare, emergency services and the food and agriculture industries became eligible to be vaccinated.
At the Monterey Mushrooms facility on Morgan Hill, health officials began vaccinating 1,000 rural workers as part of a two-day effort.
“Our goal in the county is to ensure that everyone has access to vaccination when they become eligible, especially those who are working in sectors that were most affected by COVID and who are working in the communities most affected by COVID here in our county,” said the official. county health officer, Dr. Sara Cody.
Dr. Marty Fenstersheib, the county’s COVID-19 vaccination and test officer, said on Sunday that nearly 20% of the county was vaccinated at this time.
“We have great capacity, we have many clinics, we have providers across the county – we just need more vaccine,” he said. “We are hopeful that we will see more vaccine coming from the state, from the federal government to us, especially now with the third vaccine from Johnson & Johnson being authorized by the FDA.”
