Three police officers in Wichita, Kansas, were injured in a possible explosion on Saturday in an empty house that they were dispatched to check, officials said.
A police officer suffered serious injuries and was stable in a hospital, the Wichita Police Department tweeted. The other two suffered minor injuries and were also hospitalized, the department said.
A SWAT team was “activated” as part of the department’s response to the incident, which occurred after the 4 pm dispatch, police said. The department’s bomb squad was also at the address.
Agents from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were at the scene, the ATF tweeted.
“It’s still an active situation,” Wichita policeman said.
The house is located south of downtown Wichita, according to NBC affiliate KSNW.
