LLCHD reports yet another death from COVID-19

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – The Lincoln-Lancaster County Department of Health announced on Friday that one more resident had died of COVID-19. Death was a man in his 80s who died at home. The total death toll in Lancaster County is now 221. On behalf of the city, Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird expresses condolences to his family and friends.

LLCHD reports 45 laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lancaster County, bringing the community total to 28,086.

Recoveries: 13,343

Weekly positivity rate:

  • February 14 to 20: 24 percent
  • February 21-26: 20.7 percent

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 positive patients: 37 with 22 from Lancaster County and 15 from other communities (none on fans).

Vaccine doses administered: more than 76,870

An online COVID-19 vaccine registration form for Lancaster County residents is available at COVID19.lincoln.ne.gov. Those without online access or who need help can call the LLCHD COVID-19 hotline at 402-441-8006 from 8 am to 4:30 pm on weekdays to register.

The vaccine is not yet available to the general public. As soon as doses of the vaccine become available, those who are registered will have an appointment to be vaccinated. Vaccination appointments depend on the delivery of the vaccine and are not related to the order in which people are registered. Registration is open to all residents of the county, but those in Phase 1B – those aged 65 and over and those with underlying medical conditions – are encouraged to register.

The COVID-19 risk indicator is medium yellow, indicating a moderate risk of spreading the virus. Recommendations include:

  • Cautious expansion of interactions with others – preferred outdoor activities
  • Keep wearing a mask and distance yourself when you are around other people outside your home.
  • Participate in business, meetings and events with only modifications (ie physical distance, face masks and capacity limits)
  • Follow the CDC Travel Guidelines

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath, repeated agitation with chills, repeated muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell. Those who experience any of these symptoms or who have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 should be tested immediately. The testing process begins with a free online risk assessment available at BryanHealth.com, CHIHealth.com or TestNebraska.com.

The drive-through test is available at:

  • CHI Health St. Elizabeth: Autumn Ridge Family Medicine, 5000 North 26th St. and Southwest Family Health, 1240 Aries Drive. Call any of the locations to schedule an appointment: Autumn Ridge, 402-435-5300 and South West Family, 402-420-1300.
  • Nebraska Test: Gateway Mall, 6100 “O” St., parking lot north of the old Sears store. The tests are carried out from 8 am to noon and from 1 pm to 6 pm, from Monday to Saturday. For more information, call 402-207-9377
