Joe Biden says the United States is “weeks ahead of schedule” and will be the first country in the world to have 100 million vaccinations.
The president made his confident statement at a federal vaccination site in Texas shortly after experts recommended Johnson & Johnson’s single injection vaccine for FDA authorization.
Biden told the crowd that the United States is now on track to reach its goal of 100 million vaccines in its first 100 days at the White House.
“The more people are vaccinated, the faster we will beat this pandemic,” he said.
“America will be the first in the world to do this, and I am proud to say that we are halfway there, 50 million photos.
“We are weeks ahead, even with delays caused by the winter storm, we are going in the right direction.”
It’s him. He added: “In five weeks, the United States vaccinated more people than anyone else in the world, that is a great progress.”
But he cautioned Americans not to become complacent and to continue to distance themselves socially, washing their hands and wearing masks.
“It is not a political statement. It’s a patriotic attitude, ”he said of wearing a mask.
And he asked Americans to get vaccinated while praising his safety.
“If there is a message that needs to eliminate all of this, it is that vaccines are safe,” he said.
“I promise you, they are safe and effective.”
Biden said he spent the day with Republican politicians, of whom he disagreed about politics.
“But there are many things that we can work on together. And one of them is represented right here today, the effort to speed up vaccinations, ”added Biden.
“We are not giving injections to Democrats or Republicans; I will repeat, we are giving Americans a chance. “
Mr. Biden and First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, spent the day in Texas to assist emergency workers and be informed of the recovery from the deadly winter storm that left millions without power, heating and water.
The president also visited and met volunteers at the Houston Food Bank and at the FEMA vaccine facility at the city’s NRG Stadium.
“Jill and I wanted to visit Texas today to let people know that our prayers are with you after this winter storm and, secondly, to let you know that we will be true partners to help you recover and rebuild from these pandemic storms and the economic crisis. We are in this for the long term, ”said Biden.
“We are not here as Democrats or Republicans, we are here today as Americans. We have a responsibility to all the people we serve.
“When a crisis hits our states, as in Texas, it is not a Republican or Democrat who is suffering, it is an American who is suffering.
“And it’s our job to help everyone in need, to take care of each other, not to leave anyone behind.”
