Mel Tucker it has shaken virtually every aspect of the state’s Michigan program since taking over as coach a year ago. This obviously includes uniforms, as the Spartans launched two new green helmets in 2020 that were an instant hit with fans, one with a backward “S” block and the other with the “rude Sparty” logo often requested.
But there was another new look that MSU was ready to unveil, but it didn’t actually use.
The Spartans were prepared to wear new white helmets with the word “State” written in green letters, similar to the old style that the men’s basketball team MSU wore in recent uniforms, on their November 21 trip to Maryland. No one in the audience saw the full uniform, however, because that game against the water turtles was delayed due to problems with COVID-19 in its program. The regular season closing game against Maryland scheduled for December 19 was also canceled for the same reason.
On Friday afternoon, the MSU football Twitter account lifted the curtain on what could have been. Take a look at the pictures and the helmet uniform reveal from the script below:

The Spartans finished 2-5 in their first season under Tucker, a year shortened and interrupted by the pandemic COVID-19. They are currently in the middle of their off-season conditioning program, with a spring ball scheduled to start on March 23.
