Donald Trump Jr. criticized Republicans who “lose stylishly” to Democrats and said his father, former President Donald Trump, has shown that “you can really back down.”

Speaking on Fox News on Thursday, Trump said more Republicans were unwilling to stand up to Democrats and needed to act like the former president.

“Republicans are not willing to do that. They have shown this over the decades,” he said in an interview with host Sean Hannity.

He continued: “They prefer to lose elegantly, I think. This is not really a plan I would follow. It is what they did. Donald Trump showed that you don’t have to do that. You can really push back.”

Since taking office, President Joe Biden has signed a series of executive actions that overturned Trump-era policies and pushed hard to advance a new stimulus package.

Some Republicans were open to working with Biden, who promised to return bipartisanship to US politics.

For his part, former President Trump reacted to the election defeat by rejecting the results and making false claims.

His attacks included a series of failed legal bids for the results and the spread of conspiracy theories.

He also repeatedly angered his supporters, encouraging them to “fight” against Biden’s victory. This culminated on January 6, when he delivered a speech in Washington DC encouraging supporters and using violent images.

This quickly turned into a riot at the United States Capitol, where lawmakers ratified the results of the November elections. The riot resulted in five deaths, including a Capitol police officer.

This led to the impeachment of Trump by the House of Representatives in January. He was accused of inciting the January 6 uprising, becoming the first president to face two charges.

But the Senate, where he has strong Republican support, voted to absolve him.
