Britney Spears’ father, Jamie “saved his life”, is not a “villain”, says the patriarch’s attorney in custody

A lawyer representing Britney Spears’ father spoke on Thursday to deny accusations that he is controlling the pop star.

For the past eight years, the 39-year-old has been under the legal tutelage of patriarch Jamie Spears. The 68 year old lady is responsible for her business and personal decisions.

“I understand that every story needs a villain, but people get it all wrong here,” said Jamie’s lawyer, Vivian Thoreen, during her appearance on “Good Morning America”.

“This is the story of an extremely loving, dedicated and loyal father who saved his daughter from a life-threatening situation,” she explained. “People were harming and exploiting her. Jamie saved Britney’s life.”

According to Thoreen, when Jamie took over his famous daughter’s finances, she reportedly had only $ 2.8 million in the bank, despite earning tens of millions every year for more than a decade. Thoreen shared that, with Jamie’s guidance, Spears’s earnings have grown since then and she now has about $ 60 million in assets.

Spears released several albums, had a successful residency in Las Vegas and worked as a judge on “America’s Got Talent”.

“Britney’s assets were clearly being poorly managed,” Thoreen told the channel. “She was being taken advantage of by some people around her.

“He collaborated with her,” she shared. “When she is ready to perform, she introduces herself. When she wants to record an album, she records an album and when she wants to live her life as a normal person, he collaborated with her on that.”

During her appearance, Thoreen revealed never-before-seen videos of the pair in Louisiana, made in early 2020. She said the pair “crouched” with the rest of the family in the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“Throughout 2020, Britney and her father had a lot of conversations,” said Thoreen. “At the beginning of the pandemic, they spent two weeks with other family members in Louisiana. Britney and Jamie took long trips … they played in the family garden. Every night, Jamie prepared homemade southern food. In that time, Britney never expressed that words to her father. She never asked him to walk away. “

“Jamie loves his daughter,” continued Thoreen. “Like any other family, problems arise, but this in no way diminishes their love and support for each other. Britney knows that her father loves her and she can call him, guardianship or not.

“Jamie serves as his conservator because he loves her. He wants the best for Britney. We have to remember how guardianship started. Britney needed help and that is why she was implemented.”

Legal protection has been in place since Spears’ public collapse more than a decade ago. He gave conservatives – Jamie for most of his existence – control over the star’s property, including his fortune.

The enduring legal situation sparked calls from fans to free Spears from guardianship through the #FreeBritney campaign, which saw its flames further fueled by the recent release of the unauthorized documentary “Framing Britney Spears”, which examined her life and career, including her problems cool.

Last summer, it was reported that Spears is “strongly against” that his father resumes his duties as his only conservative. It is believed that Spears may seek an end to guardianship in the future.
