The direct prison drama for the series will come from the Paramount Network, which originally developed the project, with Antoine Fuqua as executive producer.

The two-time Oscar nominee was chosen to star (and executive produce) on Taylor Sheridan’s series Mayor of Kingstown. The prison drama was originally taken straight to the series in January 2020 on the Paramount Network and will now be transferred to the Paramea + streamer. In addition, Antoine Fuqua embarked on the series as an executive producer. The news was announced on Wednesday during the presentation of Paramount + investor day.
The cast and new home for the show come before the brand change of the CBS All Access service to Paramount + in March, which will also be home to other original content and library from the entire ViacomCBS portfolio. Sheridan and Hugh Dillon (Yellowstone) co-created the series and will executive produce alongside David Glasser and 101 Studios, Fuqua, Renner, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari and Michael Friedman. The series comes from MTV studios, Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions and 101.
“When Taylor told me about Kingstown Mayor, I immediately wanted to be a part of it, ”said Fuqua. “The series offers a comprehensive view of the brutal prison system, where socio-political issues are rampant. Prisons are a forgotten world for the majority of the population, and yet they represent a microcosm of society as a whole. “
For Renner, Kingstown Mayor marks its second series for two different streamers. He will also repeat his MCU role in the Disney + series Hawkeye, that is due this year. Kingstown and Hawkeye are Renner’s first regular roles in the series since he starred in the 2009 ABC dramatic comedy by Noah Hawley The unusual ones.
