Jeffery’s time in Philadelphia is coming to an end

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Alshon Jefferythe game days in Philadelphia are over. Rappoport reported on Monday the Eagles plan to release Jeffery when the league year begins this spring.

Jeffery will certainly be a veteran target for the NFL teams this season. He’s one of the best targets in the red zone for the past four seasons.

Jeffery, 31, has seen his production drop with Philadelphia in each of the past two seasons. His best year came in 2018, when he pulled 65 passes for 843 yards and six touchdowns. When the Eagles won the Super Bowl in the 2017 season, Jeffery had 57 receptions for 789 yards and nine touchdowns. In the past two seasons, Jeffery has played 17 games due to several injuries. He just completed his ninth season in the NFL and his fourth with the Eagles.

The native of Saint Matthews, SC, was the wide receiver of the 2009 class in 13th place, according to 247Sports Composite. He chose South Carolina over offers from Tennessee, Alabama, Southern Cal, Florida, Kentucky and North Carolina. Over three seasons playing for Gamecocks, in 40 games played, he had 183 receptions for 3,042 yards and 23 touchdowns. His career has been awarded second place in school history, while his touchdowns are tied for first with Sidney Rice.

Jeffery was a second round selection (No. 45 overall) for the Chicago Bears in the 2012 NFL Draft. He spent five seasons in Chicago and was selected for the 2013 Pro Bowl.
