CVS Health will administer COVID-19 vaccines in six additional states

WOONSOCKET, RI, February 24, 2021 / PRNewswire / – CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) added Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania to the list of states where selected CVS pharmacies will offer COVID-19 vaccines to eligible populations through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. This follows the success February 12th implementation in 11 states: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. Schedules for the last allocation of approximately 570,000 doses will begin to be made available for reservation today, with doses starting February 25.

“The feedback on all aspects of the vaccination process has been incredibly positive, from the digital experience to the interaction with our team of health professionals,” he said. Karen S. Lynch, President and CEO, CVS Health. “We are also making significant progress towards reaching vulnerable communities, which will continue to be an essential part of our vaccination effort.”

There are almost 10,000 CVS pharmacies across the country, with almost half located in communities with a high or very high rating on the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The high SVI classification, together with the population density and demographics of the area, are critical factors in determining which CVS Pharmacy locations will offer COVID-19 vaccines. CVS Health recently announced several measures to address vaccine education and equity, particularly among black and Hispanic populations.

CVS Health has been offering COVID-19 vaccines to a limited extent in Ohio using state allocations. As more supplies become available through the federal program, the company will expand to other states and, at the same time, increase the number of stores offering vaccines. Pharmacy CVS has the capacity to administer 20 to 25 million injections per month.

Vaccines in a retail environment are only offered by appointment via CVS.com or through the CVS Pharmacy app, and those without online access can contact customer service: (800) 746-7287.

Long-term care vaccination effort nearly complete

CVS Health administered approximately four million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to residents and employees at more than 40,000 long-term care facilities across the country through the Pharmacy Long-Term Care Partnership Program. CVS pharmacy staff completed second doses in all qualified nursing facilities and will complete second doses in nursing homes and other facilities in mid-March,[1] fulfilling the company’s commitment to help protect a population disproportionately affected by the pandemic. CVS Health has regularly updated its progress using publicly available data.
