Ashley Judd is recovering.
On Monday, the actress went to Instagram where she detailed her “exhausting 55-hour” rescue after splintering her leg.
The 52-year-old woman managed to get out of the jungle in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where she tripped over a fallen tree. Judd was flown to Sunninghill Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, for surgery.
Yahoo! Entertainment previously reported that the “Double Jeopardy” actress travels to the Congo about twice a year because her “life partner” runs a research field there. In the United States, she is known for camping in the countryside.

“I came to them from the DRC in very bad shape and my leg had no pulse,” wrote Judd. “I desperately needed a blood transfusion. Her sisters (nurses) are exemplary, technically top notch and have treated the trauma in my body and also in my soul with equal competence.”
According to the star, his surgeon, Dr. Eugene Greeff “was excellent at stabilizing my leg with the external fixator until the massive soft tissue damage and swelling subsided so that I could do the Grand Operation.”
“What he did was significant and I am forever indebted to him,” added Judd.
Judd noted that hospitals in South Africa have been dealing with the COVID B.1.351 strain, which is recognized as a new variant of the fastest-spreading coronavirus. Her father, Michael Ciminella, had already received his vaccine for COVID-19 and was able to fly to Johannesburg.

“My beloved father, who received the text that no father wants: ’emergency, I cannot answer questions, please come now’, in fact, because he is vaccinated, he was able to come to South Africa,” she wrote. “He has been my rock, companion, resource, helped me to hear so many doctors, critical support system and kind and loving presence while I cried and cried. Then, we made the 22 hours – 4 flights – to America thanks to the unbelievable efficient travel insurance against disasters in an air ambulance. “
Judd said that once she was in an American hospital, she had to wait “for tissue damage and swelling to subside”.
“Finally, I was qualified to undergo 8-hour surgery to repair the bones, decompress the nerve with hemorrhage and remove the bone fragments from the nerve,” she revealed. “Now I am recovering from the surgery.”
Judd also had time to thank the entire care team during the terrible ordeal.

“I am very grateful to all the experts, including … my father, who is rubbing my foot to remember my foot, although he still cannot move, that he is connected to my body,” she wrote. “I am already on my feet. Thank you for your kindness and kind words. We will always remember those who have no insurance. We will remember those who have no choice. We will remember those who are lonely and afraid.”
Judd previously shared that she “will walk again”, but does not have a “deadline” to recover.
