Fold phones are still not very popular, but Huawei’s new Mate X2 looks like it could be real competition for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold two.

Announced by Live broadcast earlier today, the Mate X2 represents a major change from Huawei’s previous folding phones. The company has changed from an outward folding design to an inward folding design that places the Mate X2 8-inch 2480 x2200 foldable OLED screen inside the device. THEOn the outside, there is now a 6.45 inch secondary OLED screen 2700 x 1600, with internal and external screens with 90 Hz refresh rates.

THE Mate X2 shares the same basic design as expensive Samsung folding, although the Galaxy Z Fold 2 boasts a superior 120 Hz refrainsh to assess. But Huawei deflects in some interesting ways.

The first big change is something I really wish Samsung had done. In tit inside, Huawei does not include a selfie camera, so there is no notch or holepunch camera to distract that huge flexible screen. This may seem like a bold call to some, especially with the way social media is now, but considering that you can still take a selfie with the camera above the external screen, it means that when it’s open, your attention is on that big one, full screen experience, exactly where it should be.

Huawei said during its live broadcast that Mate X2 will have a small crease where the phone’s screen folds due to its design, however with With some clever engineering, the crease should be more of a ripple to help prevent possible distortion of the screen. TThe Mate X2 hinge is also designed to eliminate the gap between the two halves of the phone when folded, something that Samsung was unable to do on the Z Fold 2. The end result is a more compact body.

Another important difference is that the Mate X2 has a standard 21: 9 external screen compared to the superSkinny screen 25: 9 that Samsung uses in the Z Fold 2, which offers more space when responding quickly to texts or checking notifications. These are all the changes that should make Mate X2 easier to use every day and serves to reinforce why folding phones need more companies testing design changes if they are going to become popular.

TMate X2 cameras include a 16 MP exterior selfie camera, along with a quad-rear camera module consisting of a 50 MP main camera, a 16 MP Cine camera, a 12 MP 3x zoom camera and a 8 MP Super Zoom camera with 10x zoom. This is a very powerful photographic toolkit, with Huawei’s 10x zoom offering much greater range than the 2x optical zoom on the Z Fold two

Unlike the Z Fold 2, Mate X2 does not have a gap in the middle of its flexible screen when closed, which is a real step forward for foldable phones.

Samsung loaded its foldable flagship with impressive specifications but Mate X2’s components are not as high, with only 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of storage and no support for wireless charging. Mate X2 can also be the last Huawei phone to feature one of the company’s internal devices Kirin 9000 chips, which were originally supposed to be removed after last year Mate 40 Pro. Even so, Mate X2 is still expected to cost 18,000 RMB in China (about $ 2,785) when it goes on sale on February 25th.-That is almost $ 800 more than a Z fold two

Hauwei says it will update Mate X2 with its new Harmony operating system developed earlier this year, but Huawei phones do not yet support any Google application or service, which is an obstacle for those living outside Asia. Bebetween that, it is high price and unknown availability for the Mate X2 outside of China, although this device represents a good turnaround in the design of the foldable phone, Huawei’s technology remains difficult to sell –especially for people in the USA
