Chilling video captured rescuers desperately trying to blow the windshield of a Mexican Air Force jet that crashed on takeoff, killing at least six military personnel, according to reports.
The Learjet 45 hit the ground after taking off at about 9:45 am on Sunday from El Lencero airport in Emiliano Zapata, near the city of Xalapa, in the state of Veracruz, reported Reuters, who quoted the defense secretary.
Dramatic footage shows rescuers trying to break the aircraft’s windshield on fire as it expels flames and dense smoke.
The six victims have not been identified and the military will carry out an investigation, the ministry added.
It was not clear how many people were on board the doomed flight.
“We express our deepest condolences to our comrades in arms,” said the secretary, according to Agence France-Presse.
