POUGHKEEPSIE – A Dutchess county resident tested positive for the COVID-19 variant in the UK.

Dutchess county executive Marcus Molinaro announced on Saturday afternoon that the state Department of Health had notified the county of the test result.

“With confirmed cases of the variant in neighboring counties, we were expected to see cases in Dutchess County,” said Molinaro in a statement released by his office.

“This is an important reminder that, despite the reduction in the rate of positivity and vaccinations in progress, the fight against COVID is not yet over.”

Molinaro added that residents must remain vigilant, continuing to wear masks, washing their hands and respecting their health and the health of others. He said he also highlighted the need to vaccinate residents as soon as possible.

“I will continue our effort to increase vaccine allocation, including a partnership with the state for a mass vaccination site here in Dutchess County,” concluded Molinaro.
