SC Stay Mortgage Assistance and Rental Program

South Carolina renters + owners who has was affected financially by the COVID-19 pandemic can now ask for help Through the SC Accommodationit’s new SC Stay Program.

THE $ 25 million rental and mortgage assistance program, financed by CARES Act, aims to help residents facing possible eviction due to the inability to make housing payments. Eligible may receive up to six months of payments – at most $ 7,500 – which can be used to cover late and / or future payments.

Last September, the CDC put a temporary pause in evictions across the country that has been extended through March 31. Once lifted, it is expected that up to 180,000 SC residents will face eviction. SC Accommodation announced SC Stay in January to help residents to stay in their homes during this challenging time.

60% of funds will be allocated to tenants and 40% for owners, which are expected to be distributed in the next 30 days.

For qualify, residents must:

  • Have an income on or below 80% county median
  • To test inability to pay all or part of the rent / mortgage due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Have a owner or creditor confirms late payment status + agree to accept payments on your behalf
