Arkansas 4, Texas 0 – FINAL
Caleb Bolden bypassed a first-hand hitter and finished the Razorbacks’ second victory at Arlington.
Brady Slavens was the offensive hero with a pair of two-out RBI strikes, including a three-run home run. But the biggest story was the Razorbacks’ pitching team, which recorded 15 eliminations and allowed only two hits.
Peyton Pallette hit eight at the start and Bolden hit seven at four innings of relief.
Razorbacks is scheduled to play at TCU tomorrow at 6pm.
Arkansas 4, Texas 0 – End of 8th entry
Arkansas stranded the loaded bases when Jalen Battles lined up to close the eighth entry. Casey Opitz chose with two outs and Cayden Wallace and Jacob Nesbit followed with walks.
Texas will send its 4-5-6 hitters to the plate in the ninth inning. Caleb Bolden will play for the Razorbacks.
Arkansas 4, Texas 0 – 8th intermediate entry
Caleb Bolden landed a strikeout, a ground out and a fly out in the eighth, his third consecutive strong inning outside the bullpen. He has six eliminations.
Bolden’s shot count is low (44) and it would not be surprising to see him shoot again in the ninth.
Arkansas will send 4-5-6 hitters to the plate in the eighth.
Arkansas 4, Texas 0 – End of 7th entry
Arkansas lost two in the seventh, after a single by Jalen Battles and a single by Christian Franklin.
The inning ended when Cullen Smith was called in for a 3-2 shot. Texas right-handed Tanner Witt hit three inning, which was the first appearance in his career.
Caleb Bolden will again launch to Arkansas in the eighth.
Arkansas 4, Texas 0 – 7th intermediate entry
Texas lost its sixth runner when hitter Murphy Stehly hit Caleb Bolden’s 2-2. Bolden now has five eliminations in two entries. The Razorbacks eliminated 13 Longhorns tonight.
DJ Petrinsky caught up with him with a double walk against Bolden. Arkansas thought Petrinsky took a 2-2 slider spin, but it was decided that he held on. Bolden failed in a 3-2 slider to drive him.
Petrinsky arrived three times this evening. He was hit by a pitch on his first two appearances.
Arkansas 4, Texas 0 – End of 6th entry
The Razorbacks stranded a runner on the sixth inning when Cayden Wallace hit back after a two-way walk from Casey Opitz. Dawson Merryman lost 3-1 to Wallace, but retaliated with two good shots.
The Texas holder’s final line, Tristan Stevens: 5 1/3 innings, 3 runs, 2 hits, 2 hikes, 2 wild shots, 1 hitting hitter, 2 eliminations. He’s ready for loss.
Arkansas 4, Texas 0 – 6th lower entry
Brady Slavens is having a great time. He just made a three-run home run to the center-right field with two eliminations in sixth place and the Razorbacks are ahead 4-0.
Slavens has all 4 RBI tonight for Arkansas. Both hits came with two inning outs.
Slavens is a student transferred to college whose anticipated arrival on campus. He hit 14 home runs and had 47 RBI in 22 games last season in JUCO baseball.
Arkansas 1, Texas 0 – 6th bottom entry
Tristan Stevens’ ride quickly eroded at the bottom of the sixth entry and Texas is heading for the bullpen.
Christian Franklin walked and advanced to second base in a wild shot, and Cullen Smith caught up with him when Stevens hit him in the foot with a shot.
Texas went to right-handed Dawson Merryman to face Arkansas cleanup hitter Braydon Webb. The book is still open about Stevens, who leaves the game in line for defeat.
Arkansas 1, Texas 0 – 6th intermediate entry
Caleb Bolden is a potential weekend starter for Arkansas and made an excellent debut of the season on the sixth entry. He hit the side in 12 shots with an electric slider.
Bolden has the strength to go deeply into this game. If he continues to launch like that, it is a good sign for Razorbacks.
Eleven of the Longhorns’ outs tonight were eliminated.
The top of the Arkansas lineup should be at the bottom of the turn.
Arkansas 1, Texas 0 – End of 5th entry
Tristan Stevens continues to work effortlessly on Arkansas programming. He withdrew from the end of the order in six shots in the fifth round.
His shot count is only 55. He could go deep into the game at this rate.
He is not a powerful pitcher and is making Arkansas hit the ball where his defenders are positioned.
Caleb Bolden will launch for Arkansas on the sixth entry.
Arkansas 1, Texas 0 – 5th intermediate entry
Eric Kennedy flew to the center field in a 2-2 pitch to strand runners around the curves. Texas arrested five runners tonight.
That was a good shot by Caden Monke after he thought the inning was over before the rebound. It would be easy to let an entry fall apart in this scenario.
The final line at Peyton Pallette: 4 1/3 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts. Because he was on a pitch count, I think he is on the line of being the winning pitcher.
Arkansas 1, Texas 0 – Top 5 inning
Arkansas nearly came out of the fifth inning with a double game, but it was reversed when the replay review showed that Austin Todd won the first base shot.
Jalen Battles started the defensive sequence with a good backhand and Robert Moore did well. Todd was initially called, but the Texas dugout defied the call and won.
The turn gave the Longhorns runners in the corners with two eliminations at the entrance. Murphy Stehly chose the bat before Todd.
Arkansas 1, Texas 0 – Top 5 inning
Arkansas is making a pitch change with one eliminated in the fifth. Peyton Pallette reached his pitch count.
Pallette’s eighth and final strikeout was from Cam Williams to lead the inning, but he hit DJ Petrinsky a second time to give the Longhorns a one-out base runner. Because of the base aisle, the book cannot yet be closed on the Pallette.
Caden Monke, who did not register an exit against two hitters last night, is in the game.
Arkansas 1, Texas 0 – End of 4th entry
Similar to Peyton Pallette in the third entry, Tristan Stevens had some problems when he started working on the straight on the fourth.
Cullen Smith chose with two eliminations to give the Razorbacks their first base runner and Braydon Webb followed with a five-shot walk.
Brady Slavens then hit a single RBI on the right field to score Smith and give the Razorbacks the lead.
The entry ended when Casey Opitz attacked the first baseman.
Arkansas reduced Stevens’ pitch count in the inning slightly, bringing it to 49 after he played 33 in the first three innings.
He’s still trying to get in touch at the start of the count. Robert Moore dropped out and Christian Franklin flew into the field center to give Arkansas two quick outings in the room.
Arkansas 0, Texas 0 – 4th intermediate entry
Peyton Pallette needed a quick inning and he did it. He needed 11 shots to remove the Longhorns 4-5-6 hitter and probably bought another entry with his shot count now at 65.
Zach Zubia and Ivan Melendez flew. Sandwiched between was a blow from Trey Faltine.
Pallette eliminated seven tonight. The top of the order must go up to the Razorbacks at the bottom of the turn.
Arkansas 0, Texas 0 – End of 3rd entry
Arkansas failed to stand out against Tristan Stevens, but it was not for lack of good strokes. Braydon Webb missed the hit in a great move from the Longhorns’ third baseman to lead the second inning, and shortstop Trey Faltine stole Cayden Wallace from a hit with a good stop and a spinning shot to lead the third.
Jacob Nesbit dropped out and Jalen Battles flew to the left to end the shift.
The Razorbacks did not have a base runner against Stevens, who is having a lot of success in pitching to contact. His pitch count is only 33 out of three entries.
It will be interesting to see what kind of adjustments Arkansas can make against it a second time through the lineup.
Arkansas 0, Texas 0 – 3rd intermediate entry
Peyton Pallette stranded the loaded bases in the middle of the third Longhorns. He eliminated Eric Kennedy – his sixth strikeout – and sent Mike Antico to the shortstop in the shallow left field for submission.
Antico hit a quick 3-1 ball in the middle to set up the reward field. Pallette had not allowed a base runner before the third.
His pitch count took a hit in the inning. He launched 24 shots in the first two innings, but 30 in the third. He’s on a count of about 75 tonight.
Arkansas 0, Texas 0 – Third main entrance
After a brilliant start, Peyton Pallette had some problems in third place against the bottom half of the Longhorn team.
Pallette did not receive the call about what appeared to be a possible three strike against the eight-hole hitter DJ Petrinsky, then hit him with a shot two shots later. Murphy Stehly followed with a single, starting hitter, Austin Todd, took a spin.
The Longhorns load the bases with an outside one.
Arkansas 0, Texas 0 – End of 2nd entry
Texas third baseman Cam Williams made a great dive stop in a hot shot from Braydon Webb for the first inning middle exit. Brady Slavens followed with a foul for the receiver and Casey Opitz was caught looking for an 86mph break throw.
No team has had a base runner yet.
Arkansas 0, Texas 0 – 2nd intermediate entry
Peyton Pallette is scored. He hit the Longhorns’ 4-5-6 hitters in 12 shots in the second inning.
He caught Zach Zubia and Trey Faltine looking at a 95 mph fastball for hit three, and Ivan Melendez swung through a 95 mph fastball to finish the inning.
Pallette’s fastball has been at 95-96 mph consistently and he is managing to hit both shots. He already has five eliminations.
Arkansas 0, Texas 0 – End of first entry
Both teams went three up and three down for a quick first entry.
Robert Moore crashed before Christian Franklin and Cullen Smith flew at the bottom of the first for the Razorbacks.
Texas pitcher Tristan Stevens only needed to make 10 pitches in the inning. Peyton Pallette launched just 12 pitches to Arkansas.
Arkansas 0, Texas 0 – 1st intermediate entry
If Peyton Pallette is nervous at the first start, he did not appear at the top of the first.
The right-hand hit a pair of Longhorns and sent two-hole hitter Eric Kennedy flying. His fastball was timed at 96 mph.
Pre-game
Arkansas and Texas are scheduled to launch a first pitch at 7:45 pm, after the previous game had long been between Texas Tech and Ole Miss.
Razorbacks will use the same starting lineup and batting order for the 13-9 win over Texas Tech tonight.
The Arkansas sophomore, Peyton Pallette, will make his first career start. Pallette received good reviews during the off-season.
Texas will be the junior right holder Tristan Stevens, who shot two eliminations during a game between the Longhorns and the Razorbacks in 2019. Stevens was Texas’ biggest substitute pitcher in the past two years.
Arkansas is wearing their white blouses and T-shirts with red numbers and ornaments, and red hats tonight. Texas uniforms are gray with orange numbers and ornaments and orange hats.
Razorbacks are the designated home team tonight.
