595 hospitalized patients with COVID-19; SAWS says 80% of the boil warning in San Antonio was lifted

SANTO ANTÓNIO – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg updated the community on the local response to COVID-19 and the consequences of the winter climate at an information meeting on Sunday night.

Mayor Nirenberg reported some data received on coronavirus cases in Bexar County. On Saturday, Nirenberg reported 77 cases of coronavirus and no new deaths. However, the low case numbers can be attributed to the lack of state data due to the winter storm last week.

The mayor also informed that 595 patients are hospitalized, 20 unless on Saturday, 232 are in the intensive care unit and 137 are on ventilators.

There have been 82 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, said Nirenberg.

CPS Power

All but 14 homes had their power restored, according to Mayor Nirenberg.

For customers who are concerned about the next utility bill, Nirenberg said the energy company has suspended automatic payment for all customers at this time.

Customers don’t have to call to pay the bill. However, if your payment on autopay has already been made, call CPS Energy at 210-353-2222.

San Antonio Water System

San Antonio Water System CEO Robert Puente announced on Sunday at the meeting that 100% of its surface has water.

At around 6 pm, Puente said that more than 80% of the city is no longer under the boiling water warning. This means that customers released for the warning no longer need to boil water before consuming.

Those still under the boil warning are due to be released on Monday, according to Puente.
