YouTube, our portal for an entire multimedia world, is getting more and more resources as technology advances. Sometimes, one of Google’s most important apps is lagging behind when it comes to some of the features that rival apps already offer its users, but sooner or later, YouTube is forced to implement these options for match the competition. The image quality that YouTube offers on various platforms is strongly related to the quality of your Internet connection, but this is more important when you are watching videos on the go. As long as you have a 4K-compatible smartphone, you can watch YouTube videos in high resolution, but only if your internet connection can support you.
As of this week, YouTube has added the same 4K resolution option for Android devices that don’t really support it. If your smartphone has a Full HD or HD resolution screen, you can theoretically watch 4K videos on YouTube.
Now, this does not mean that the video you are watching is actually running in 4K resolution on your FHD + monitor. However, the videos you are watching in 4K resolution appear to have higher fidelity, even when played on low resolution monitors. In addition, thanks to the reduction, the image is sharper, so you can have a better experience watching a video in 4K resolution on an FHD screen instead of watching the same video in a lower resolution.
Google still confirmed the new changes, but there is a whole topic on Reddit where people discuss the benefits of having a high fidelity option for watching videos on YouTube.
