In northern China, there are some concerns and complaints among residents who have been confined for more than 40 days.
China has recently experienced its worst outbreaks since the first months of the pandemic. Gaocheng, a district in the city of Shijiazhuang with 800,000 inhabitants, was one of the most affected, with more than 880 cases.
The South China Morning Post reports that there have been no new cases since Monday, and officials have adjusted risk level designations for most of the district. But some residents of the city of Jiumen said they were not informed of the lifting of restrictions and were prevented from leaving. They have been locked up since mid-January, and residents are saying they are running out of food and have been forced to take tests several times.
“I’ve done the test 16 times. I haven’t left the house in over a month. ”He Pengfei, owner of a 30-year-old restaurant in the city of Lianzhou, told the Post. He said he was forced to close his business and was in debt.
