Android 12 theme tool introduced before launch

As we reported before the release of the first developer preview, one of the great new features in Android 12 is the advanced theme features. Although these new options are not available on the developer’s first view, a smart developer was able to give us a first look at the new theme tool that will come to Android 12.

Last month, we reported that Google was working on this new in-depth theme system that can be adjusted manually or can automatically adjust to match your wallpaper. Android Developer Kdrag0n shared a handful of screenshots on Twitter that show the last option.

Pictured below as it was manually activated in Developer Preview 1, the new Android 12 theme tool chooses the colors of your wallpaper and adjusts the system to match, from the quick settings and notifications to the buttons and sliders in the settings menu. new tool is codenamed “monet” and, according to Kdrag0n, works “very well” in the developer’s first preview version.

Through some of our own research, our Dylan Roussel and Kyle Bradshaw found that some of the files “monet” will depend on for their full functionality are not yet present in Android 12 Developer Preview 1, which is probably part of the reason this requires a lot of work backstage to be activated (we haven’t been able to activate it yet).

At this point, it is not entirely clear when Google will launch the Android 12 “monet” theme tool for users, but based on previous years, a release during Android 12 Beta makes more sense. This year’s schedule puts this release in May.
