Apple TV Plus takes a first look at “Physical” and “Lisey’s Story”

The Apple TV Plus adaptation of Paul Theroux’s novel “The Mosquito Coast” will premiere on April 30, while the second season of “Mythic Quest” will be released on May 7. In addition, three new series, “Physical”, a new set from the 1980s black comedy created by Annie Weisman and starring Rose Byrne; the adaptation of Stephen King’s “Lisey’s Story” and the musical comedy parody “Schmigadoon!” will reach the streamer this summer.

“The Mosquito Coast” stars Justin Theroux as a radical idealist and inventor named Allie Fox, who uprooted his family to Mexico after suddenly finding themselves fleeing the US government.

The seven-episode drama that also stars Melissa George, Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman will be released on a weekly schedule, with two episodes falling on April 30 and one episode falling each week subsequent to and including the ending on June 4. . executive production by creator Neil Cross alongside Rupert Wyatt, who also directs the first two episodes; Paul Theroux, Justin Theroux; Edward L. The 2nd season of “Mythic Quest” takes place in a post-COVID quarantine world, allowing almost all characters to return to the office and try to build on the success of “Raven’s Banquet” with a new expansion. However, Ian (Rob McElhenney) and newly promoted creative co-director, Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao), struggle with the game’s direction, while CW (F. Murray Abraham) reconciles some unresolved issues from his past, the testers (Ashly Burch and Imani Hakim) test the limits of an office romance and David (David Hornsby) loses another woman in his life when Jo (Jessie Ennis) leaves him to help Brad (Danny Pudi).

“Mythic Quest” was created by McElhenney, Charlie Day and Megan Ganz, all executive producers alongside Michael Rotenberg and Nicholas Frenkel, Jason Altman, Danielle Kreinik, Gérard Guillemot and David Hornsby and Megan Ganz. The series is produced by Lionsgate, 3 Arts Entertainment and Ubisoft.

“Physical” is a 10-episode series that follows Sheila Rubin (Byrne), who is described as an “apparently obedient and quietly tortured housewife, supporting her intelligent but controversial husband’s candidacy for the state assembly”. Behind closed doors, however, Sheila is also battling a complex set of personal demons related to her self-image – until she finds release in the aerobics world.

Sheila will first become addicted to the exercise itself, but her real path to empowerment comes when she finds a way to fuse her new passion with emerging videotape technology, to start her own business. Set in the 1980s, the show will follow Sheila’s journey from “a suffocated and neglected trainer to a powerful and confident economic force” – also known as a female lifestyle guru.

In addition to Byrne, from whom you can see an initial image of the character above, “Physicist” stars Rory Scovel, Dierdre Friel, Della Saba, Lou Taylor Pucci, Paul Sparks and Ashley Liao.

“Physical” is produced by Tomorrow Studios. Weisman and Byrne serve as executive producers alongside Alex Cunningham, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements. Other executive producers who also act as directors are Craig Gillespie, who directs the pilot, and Liza Johnson and Stephanie Laing.

“Lisey’s Story”, adapted from King’s 2006 novel of the same name, focuses on Lisey London (Julianne Moore) as a series of unsettling events make her face memories of her marriage to her late and famous novelist husband Scott (Clive Owen ) that she had deliberately blocked.

“Lisey’s Story” comes from King, who serves as creator, screenwriter and executive producer, personally writing each episode of the eight-episode limited series. Other executive producers include JJ Abrams; Pablo Larraín, who also directs; Ben Stephenson; Juan de Dios Larraín; and Moore. Joan Allen, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Dane DeHaan and Ron Cephas Jones also star. The project comes from Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

“Schmigadoon!” stars Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key as a couple on a backpacking trip with the aim of reinvigorating their relationship when they discover a magical city in which everyone acts as if they were in a 1940s musical. Unfortunately for them, they also learn that they cannot leave the city until they find true love.

The six-episode series also stars Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenoweth, Aaron Tveit, Dove Cameron, Ariana DeBose, Fred Armisen, Jaime Camil, Jane Krakowski and Ann Harada. It comes from Broadway Video and Universal Television, and is co-created by Cinco Paul, who acts as a showrunner and wrote all the original songs in the series, and Ken Daurio. Barry Sonnenfeld directs and is an executive producer. In addition to starring, Strong serves as a producer, and Daurio serves as a consulting producer and writer. Andrew Singer is an executive producer with Lorne Michaels on behalf of Broadway Video.
