Since February 19, Virginia has been reporting 559,930 cases of coronavirus across the community since March 2020.

As of Friday, a total of 1,471,242 vaccines have been administered across Virginia, with 393,306 people fully vaccinated, according to the VDH.

Here is an analysis of the 2,034 new coronavirus cases reported in Virginia today:

  • 213 new cases in Roanoke County

  • 182 new cases in Fairfax County

  • 127 new cases in Chesterfield County

  • 114 new cases in Virginia Beach

  • 107 new cases in Charlottesville

  • 102 new cases in Prince William County

  • 83 new cases in Norfolk

  • 81 new cases in County Loudoun

  • 80 new cases in Chesapeake

  • 76 new cases in Albemarle County

  • 65 new cases in Montgomery County

  • 64 new cases in Newport News

  • 61 new cases in Richmond

  • 47 new cases in Hampton

  • 42 new cases in Arlington County

  • 37 new cases in Henrico County

  • 3 new cases in Harrisonburg, Franklin, Waynesboro, Amherst County, Culpeper County, Northampton County, Radford, Manassas, Fairfax, Caroline County, Westmoreland County, Giles County, Surry County, Pulaski County, County Lee, Craig County, Alleghany and Williamsburg County

  • 2 new cases in Staunton, Goochland County, New Kent County, Scott County, Covington, Poquoson, Nelson County, Highland County, Galax and Washington County

  • 1 new case in Buckingham County, Floyd County, Grayson County, King and Queen County, Charles City County, Falls Church, Amelia County and Bland County

  • Rockbridge County, Tazewell County, Bristol and Bath County decreased in one case

  • Russell County declined in three cases

  • Roanoke City decreased by 201 cases

    • According to the health department, case reduction can be attributed to a person taking the test in a different location than where they live, or the automation process for electronically reported laboratory results can link the wrong jurisdiction to a specific postal code.

    On Friday, the Virginia Department of Health reports that there were 7,204,657 tests in total.

    The term “test encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or the need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
