We are approaching the one year mark of the COVID-19 pandemic and the fatigue of the pandemic is making people lose it, ready for the return to normal life by any means. With vaccines being launched across the country, people are doing everything they can to skip lines or get their hands on a dose. People are camped at vaccination sites until late at night to see if they can get a dose that will expire or be thrown away because it is already open, which is working for some, but others are trying different methods.

According to ABC 13, two women from Florida went to the other extreme, dressing up as elderly women to try to get the vaccine as members of the class aged 65 and over.

Dr. Raul Pino, director of the Florida Department of Health in Orange County, said the women arrived at a vaccination site “dressed in grandparents” with caps, glasses and gloves, but were rejected. The women appeared to be in their early twenties, he told reporters.

Pino said the girls were coming for the second dose of the vaccine and had valid vaccination cards with the first dose. Pino did not know how they went through the vaccination process the first time. He hinted that there was a problem with women’s photo identification the second time around.

As desperation for the vaccine grows, many vaccination sites increase safety.

“This is the hottest commodity there is now,” explained Dr. Pino. “We have to be very careful with the funds and resources that are provided to us.”
