Arkansas-Texas A&M game postponed

The February 20 men’s basketball game Arkansas at Texas A&M was postponed due to a combination of positive tests, contact tracking and subsequent quarantine of individuals within the Texas A&M basketball program, in accordance with the COVID-19 management requirements of Southeastern Conference. The make-up date has not been determined at this time.

The University of Arkansas and SEC press release confirms an earlier report by Jeff Borzello that the game between the Razorbacks and the Aggies would not be played as scheduled.

This marks the second game with Texas A&M that was postponed this season to the Razorbacks. The first was a home clash in Fayetteville that was originally scheduled for February 6. The Aggies haven’t played since the SEC / Big 12 Challenge against Kansas State on January 30. Razorbacks previously lost a game outside the Tulsa conference due to COVID- issues related to Golden Hurricane.

There is a week built for potential makeup games between the end of the regular season on March 2 and the start of the SEC Tournament in Nashville (Tennessee) on March 10, but with postponements piling up, it is unclear whether one or both games can be played.

Arkansas coach Eric Musselman has been a strong advocate of finding ways to get as many games as possible for student-athletes, and he announced via Twitter that he was working with Southeast Conference officials to see if Razorbacks could add a non – conference game to the weekend schedule, although they have already reached the maximum quota for games outside the league.

“We found out while on the bus to travel to College Station today that our game tomorrow was canceled,” said Musselman. “Our players are devastated that they cannot compete. We are working with the league to see if we can add a game outside the conference.”

For now, Arkansas is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, February 24, when it hosts Alabama in Fayetteville (Arkansas). The broadcast of the Bud Walton Arena is scheduled for 8pm (CST), and the game is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN2 or ESPNU.
