Two Dallas police officers were shot on Thursday morning while answering a call in Old East Dallas, according to Chief Eddie Garcia.

Police officers responded shortly after 11 am on the 5300 block of Avenida Bonita, near North Henderson Avenue, where the suspect threatened to injure his wife, police said.

Garcia said police officers were met immediately by gunfire. He thanked the Dallas Fire-Rescue, which provided coverage for the police to remove injured officers from the scene.

The two officers had injuries to their lower legs and were taken to a local hospital in stable condition, according to Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata.

Tactical officers were also on the scene. Police were looking for the suspect and people were asked to avoid the area.
