JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Jaguars are turning green.
The team announced on Wednesday that it is switching from black to teal as its primary color for the domestic uniform, which was a big part of the uniform during the franchise’s success during its early years.
“We heard the fans loud and clear,” said equipment manager Jimmy Luck in a statement. “As the only NFL team that uses teal, we know what that color means to our organization, 904 and our entire fan base. Teal inspires great memories of some of the best moments in our franchise. Changing for teal as our main uniform, color allows us to celebrate this story at the same time as we start a new era in Jaguars football. “
Per team, the Jaguars have a record of 64-50 (60-42 at home games) while wearing teal t-shirts, which includes a victory in their first appearance on Monday Night Football, as well as one of the greatest moments in history franchise: the 62-7 victory in the playoff over the Miami Dolphins on January 15, 2000, which ended up being the final game for Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino and coach Jimmy Johnson. The Jaguars unofficially announced the color change on Twitter on Tuesday, sending a series of tweets in which the first letter of each tweet read “teal is the main”.
The team then tweeted that Twitter discovered its “cryptic message” and that the team would make teal the primary color if the tweet got 21,000 retweets. The tweet had 23,000 retweets at 11:30 am ET on Wednesday.
The team put an ad campaign video on Twitter on Wednesday it featured the defensive side Josh Allen.

The color change is part of a brand redesign for a franchise that has been one of the worst in the league in the past decade. The Jaguars have lost 10 or more games in nine of the past 10 seasons and were the worst in the franchise by 1-15 in 2020, resulting in the dismissal of general manager Dave Caldwell and coach Doug Marrone.
Owner Shad Khan has hired former Florida and Ohio coach Urban Meyer, and the Jaguars have the first choice in the next NFL draft. The team must select quarterback Trevor Lawrence of Clemson.
