Reggie Fils-Aimé left Nintendo in 2019, but appears frequently to talk about his former employer.
This year alone, he has co-hosted the New York Game Awards, joined an industry roundtable on Twitch and next month, he will appear in “Playing with Power: The Nintendo Story”.
Reggie was also recently interviewed by Gamertag Radio, a discussion that left several points of consideration. After telling us why the success of the Switch facilitated retirement and raised concerns about E3 2021, he also shared some fond memories of working at Nintendo:
Everything, from my first E3 and the famous words, ‘My name is Reggie, I’m about kicking ass and taking names and we play games.’ It was a phenomenal moment. At the same E3, when we played a Zelda trailer of what became Twilight Princess, and making the media cry … I mean literally! The media tired. These people had tears streaming down their faces.
The event where we launched the Wii and me, Mr. Iwata, Mr. Miyamoto and a competitor who won the opportunity to play live with us on stage. It was a magical moment. “
It is not the first time that Reggie has reflected on this since retirement. He brought us many memorable moments during his tenure as president of Nintendo of America, leaving some very big shoes for his successor Doug Bowser to occupy.
Nintendo’s impact on Reggie is clear, and while he continues his active involvement in the games industry, we haven’t seen his latest yet.
